If more than two months\r\n                                                        pass without surgery, there is a high probability of developing\r\n                                                        cirrhosis.\r\n                                                    <\/p>\r\n                                                <\/li>\r\n                                            <\/ul>\r\n                                            -->\r\n\r\n                                            <ul class=\"c-block c-flex c-col\">\r\n                                                <li>\r\n                                                    <h3 class=\"c-title2\">Early Detection and Surgery within Two Months\r\n                                                        of Age<\/h3>\r\n                                                    <p class=\"c-text\">\r\n                                                        The pathway through which bile produced in the liver flows to\r\n                                                        the intestines are called the bile passage or the bile duct. If\r\n                                                        the bile passage or bile duct may become blocked at birth or\r\n                                                        shortly after birth for some reason and become unable to flow,\r\n                                                        then the bile may become stagnant in the liver and flow back\r\n                                                        into the bloodstream, causing jaundice and whitish stools. <br>If\r\n                                                        left untreated, hepatic function is gradually lost, and the\r\n                                                        liver gradually becomes hardened and cirrhotic, eventually\r\n                                                        leading to death. This disease is one of the intractable\r\n                                                        pediatric diseases and is said to occur in one out of every\r\n                                                        10,000 children. In each year, about 100 babies are affected by\r\n                                                        this disease in Japan. <br>The prognosis is often poor when the\r\n                                                        disease is not detected early in life and surgery is not\r\n                                                        performed within two months of age. Even if the surgery is\r\n                                                        performed after two months and the bile begins to flow out of\r\n                                                        the liver, the disease has already progressed to cirrhosis and\r\n                                                        thus the patient will have sequelae.\r\n recognized that biliary atresia has\r\n                                                        a very promising prognosis if properly operated and managed\r\n                                                        within the first two months of life, the reality is that there\r\n                                                        is no trend toward early detection of the disease. In the United\r\n                                                        Kingdom, an article published in 1995 stated that \"Despite\r\n                                                        intensive professional education in the last 15 years over 50%\r\n                                                        of children with biliary atresia are referred after 6 weeks of\r\n                                                        age,\" emphasizing the importance of early detection and the need\r\n                                                        for some kind of screening test at the same time. Bile acid is a substance made from cholesterol in the\r\n                                                            liver, and it helps digest and absorb ingested substances in\r\n                                                            the intestines. When the liver has become compromised, bile\r\n                                                            acid leaks into the blood, increasing the amount of bile\r\n                                                            acid in the blood. The increased bile acid in the blood has\r\n                                                            a negative effect on the body, so the increased bile acid\r\n                                                            must be excreted out of the body. As a way to do this, bile\r\n                                                            acid is converted in the liver into urinary sulfated bile\r\n                                                            acid (USBA), that can be easily excreted in widdle, and then\r\n                                                            excreted out of the body. By using this enzyme, it is now possible to assay\r\n                                                            sulfate-conjugated bile acid, which has been difficult with\r\n class=\"c-text\">\r\n                                                        D-arabinitol is the characteristic a metabolite produced by\r\n                                                        genus Candida which is well known to cause a deepseated\r\n                                                        mycosis in mammals. The serum level of D-arabinitol is\r\n                                                        known to increase when Candida yeast proliferates in the\r\n                                                        body of a patient having an invasive candidiasis. Thus\r\n                                                        determination of serum level of D-arabinitol could be a good\r\n                                                        marker for the attenuation of a Candida species in a body.<br>\r\n                                                        ARABINITEC-AUTO is a simple assay reagent kit for the\r\n                                                        automatic measurement of D-arabinitol in serum. This kit\r\n                                                        utilizes an enzyme system which comprises D-arabinitol\r\n                                                        dehydrogenase combined with a color development system\r\n                                                        of diaphorase with WST-1, and enables a rapid and highly\r\n                                                        sensitive determination of D-arabinitol in a single channel\r\n                                                        using a self blank method without pretreatment.\r\n The most common type of USBA in vivo\r\n                                                            is the one with ester bond on the 3-hydroxyl group of bile\r\n                                                            acid. Sulfate conjugation of bile acid occurs mainly in the\r\n                                                            liver and is catalyzed by bile salt sulfotransferase (EC\r\n                                                            2.8.2.14) in the soluble fraction of hepatocytes. The\r\n                                                            conjugation increases its polarity and renal clearance by\r\n                                                            several- to several hundred-fold. Thus it is considered as a\r\n                                                            detoxification mechanism for the rapid excretion of excess\r\n                                                            bile acid from the body when blood bile acid levels increase\r\n                                                            due to abnormalities in the hepatobiliary system.<br>\r\n                                                            The daily USBA excretion in healthy adult is very small,\r\n                                                            ranging from 1 to 7 \u03bcmol. But when blood bile acids increase\r\n                                                            due to abnormalities in the hepatobiliary system, urinary\r\n                                                            bile acids increase accordingly. USBA is the most abundant\r\n                                                            component of urinary bile acids, which often accounts for\r\n                                                            more than 50% of the total. Therefore, when measuring\r\n                                                            urinary bile acids, it is important to measure sulfated bile\r\n                                                            acid, as large amount of sulfated bile acid are excreted in\r\n                                                            the urine of patients with hepatobiliary diseases.\r\n
